LifeSteps Training
LifeSteps Training is the education component of Community Lifeline Center. The focus is on giving individuals the training and support necessary to overcome obstacles to employment and self-sufficiency. LifeSteps combines job training, life skills training, mentoring, and networking to help individuals develop skills and self-confidence in a supportive environment.
Free life and job skills training is offered on a monthly basis. Typical classes include job seeker support, parenting support, wellness and healthy living, money management, case management services, and beginner computer instruction.
MOST CLASSES ARE FREE AND OPEN TO THE COMMUNITY DUE TO GENEROUS FINANCIAL AND VOLUNTEER SUPPORT. (Bridges Out of Poverty Workshop has a cost of $20.)

Parenting Connections Register now!
(First Monday, 1:00-2:30 pm)
Being a parent is one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences that we will ever have in our lives. But parenting is hard work! And we all make mistakes. But effective parents learn from their mistakes and are willing to do what it takes to become more effective.
Parenting Connections offers four classes on a rotational basis that give parents the skills they need to be more effective. The four classes are :
Managing Anger and Conflict: Everyone gets angry at times. Anger usually leads to conflict or sometimes conflict leads to anger. Learn how to manage your anger and handle conflict in healthy ways to strengthen your family.
Building and Maintaining Self-Esteem in Children and Adults: A positive self-esteem is essential to both children and adults. How is your self-esteem these days? Everyone needs an occasional boost! If you are a parent, you want to make sure that your self-esteem is positive so that your children will have a strong self-esteem. We’ll discuss ways that you can build and maintain your self-esteem so that both you and your children will feel better about you.
Effective Communication: It looks and sounds easy but communication is difficult! Learn how to better communicate not only with your family members but with friends and others. Effective communication isn’t hard when you practice a few tips.
Effective Discipline Strategies: Discipline is probably the most difficult aspect of parenting. Everyone has trouble disciplining their children at some point. We’ll discuss the strategies that have been proven over time to be effective for most children most of the time.

The number one reason families are in crisis is due to job loss. CLC is pleased to offer a series of four classes designed to assist men and women in locating and preparing for a new job. The classes are:
Week 1: Determining What You Want to Do
Week 2: Creating a Résumé That Reflects Your Goal
Week 3: How to Effectively Search for a Job
Week 4: Winning the Interview
Attendance at all four classes is required.
One-on-one job seeker support and resume and interview help are also available by appointment for those who attend the classes.

Develop the necessary personal money management skills to improve your cash flow and learn to live within your means with no financial stress. Discover a simple method to pay off debts without additional income. Lean how to improve your credit score to prevent sub-prime financing on credit cards, cars, homes, and other big-ticket items. Focus is on explaining the “ins” and “outs” of credit, predatory lending, and prevention of identify thefts.

Managing your money is a challenge but even more so in tough times. Discover spending plans so that you will know where your dollars are going, spending priorities, ways to control spending, cutting corners, managing stress, and paying creditors.
Internet Explorer 101 Register now!
(3rd Thursday, 9:00 am-12:00 noon)
In our increasingly computer dependent society, basic internet skills are a must! The internet contains a wealth of information on every topic imaginable – including information that is of great help to people who find themselves in a place of short-term crisis.
Internet Explorer 101 will help students become confident and efficient in “surfing the net.” The class will include such topics as: search engines, browsing with tabs, searching within a web page, using and managing favorites, browsing history, printing a web page, using the SmartScreen filter, and using InPrivate browsing.
Bridges Out of Poverty Workshop Register now!

An introductory workshop to help individuals understand the reality of life in poverty, the causes of poverty, and Dr. Ruby K. Payne’s insights into economic diversity. This material is vital for volunteers and community leaders who seek to partner with the people they serve in building a sustainable community. Topics include: creating a mental model of poverty, causes of poverty, generational poverty vs. situational poverty, hidden rules-unspoken cues and habits, the role of language and story, mediation as a tool, building resources and stages of change, and creating relationships with people in poverty.
